_|_ the education system.

6 March 2007. Today many ppl camped in front of their computers at 8am in the morning, preparing to punch their IC numbers in to find out about their posting results. Most would break up in tears, some of joy, most of saddness. And of course there is the part on finding out other ppl's IC =X. Basically, now with my hands in some ppl's results, allow me to guess of the the shcool's cutoffs.

NJC - At least 4. Last year 5.
Example: A(Undisclosed to protect identity) has a score of 4 after bonus(8-4) and missed the mark, going to PJC. He may be appealing.

ACJC - At least 7. Last Year 8.
Example: B(Once again) has a score of 7 after bonus(9-2) and missed the mark, going to PJC. He may be appealing.

If i'm not wrong, this year, all the JCs in Singapore has either lowered or maintained their cut-offs, with no JC increasing it. Due to the phenomena of what we refer to as IP, there has been a great increase in the O levels results, with students getting more A's that usual. And thus with more As and less spots in JC due to IP, the JC JAE cut-offs has now been increased to an astronomically high value.

Ok, that's bullshit. On the very point that most of the normal students will not even get a chance to get into JC while there could be some failures in IP that can't make it.

While this may seem like I'm flaming IP students, please do not get me wrong, all I am flaming here is the Singapore Government education system.

The IP batch will remain the IP batch all the way until they take the A Levels, thus allowing them to skip the O levels and stay in the JC of their choice for the whole 4 Years. This thus means that they are not 'sieved' at all. Means that with 1 test, they have been decided as the elite bunch, and it is expected that they REMAIN the elite bunch.

However it is nice to note that ppl DO move in and out of top schools like RJC and HCI back in the old days. This occurence back then allow the 'sieving' of the new and better elites, thus ensuring that the students in the top schools will remain the elites.

This is why there is a rumour going around that the IP batch this year cannot match up to the O levels batch last time.

Also, the point that there is no movement of the IP students means that less students actually gets into JC, thus meaning that the criteria for even getting into JC is now higher for them.

Making life that was hard even more difficult, so much for a caring government. Lols.

While increasing the JAE cutoff is a logical decision knowing that the O levels results would increase, the point that the inability of students to get into the college of their choice even with good results from an international acedemic competition really would infuriate many.

And the US thinks that our education system is good enough to replace theirs.

haha.
