Foreign Students?

If everyone would sees the front page of the Sunday Times today, you see the blaring headlines that screamed at every young reader alike.

"Out-Classed by foreign students?"

Now let me first say that even though I'm a true blue Singaporean, it doesn't mean that I am biased against foreign students. In fact, my life is littered with foreigns students I am proud to be friends with. Jessica, Juila, Justin, Phuong, Shi Yi, Aditya, Buo Wei, Xiong Kai, Wei Kit, Ha etc etc.

Now first let me say, that firstly, foreign students are not exactly beating the local students to a mush. Norshima is still the top Indian student isn't she? Note that it was not reported as "Out-Classed by local students?".

While the United World College soundly beaten HCI for The Arena(Must say that they did a great job though. The 2nd round was a complete thrashing.), its not exactly the end of the world for the local students.

I mean, does a single gameshow seriously decides the fate of the whole batch of local students in Singapore? Does a single top China student in Singapore means the unemployment of the local students in the future?

The Answer is No. While defending the local students, we must not forget that foreign students ain't exactly a new species of animals with a larger brain mass.

Note that while foreign students come here to study, they ain't any better then than the rest of us just because they are foreign. They are still human beings, just like any of us. Don't complain if you can't beat them just because they are better than you. It just proves that he/she put in more effort than you did. You're only whining just because you can't beat them in a fair match. Shame on you.

There is no such thing as local students being unable to stand up to the pressure of foreign students. Nor is there such things as foreign students having a higher IQ than any of us in Singapore. You just ain't working enough.

My advice? Stop whining and start working.

Now.
