Borgo. Italian Dining.

Labels:

Went to eat in a nice Italian Restaurant last sunday with my family. My father had to collect an injector from his someone living in the Newton area, thus we decided to grab a bite somewhere around the Old Turf Club. His craving for Western food brought us to this small little restaurant by Bukit Timah Road, near Sixth Avenue. Brogo, Italian Dining.

Yes, I agree, this is a horrible image taken. Rain + Handphone Camera

The place had a really great atmosphere, quiet and peaceful. However, it is really rather small, fitting not more than 30 people.

Apologies yet again.
The kitchen can be seen clearly through the glass screen though it only gives a view of the grills. Experience there, on the other hand, was rather bad, at least for me as an inexperienced diner. You see, the menu itself is mostly in Italian, with English explanations for the dishes, which was simply not enough. I believe that the restaurant was trying to create the perfect ambiance of dining in a restaurant in Italy, but it's rather ridiculous to not know exactly what I'm getting myself into. Even further explanation from the waiter was not understandable to my parents, as they remain purely Chinese speaking people. Service on every other count was perfect though.

On the topic of food on the other hand, I was very. Very impressed by the taste of the food, yet slightly disappointed by the quantity. But lets face it, it is hard to impress me with quantity. Every single one of my family members ordered their own main courses, with another pizza shared between us and skipping the appetizers etc. My dad did order a bowl of mussels boiled in white wine to share with my brother, but I never really did catch the name of the dish. Hard enough to remember names, harder to remember Italian ones.

For the main dish, I ordered Pasta in Cream Sauce and Scallops. Which was really really surprisingly good. The sauce was very rich and creamy, yet not too overbearing on the tastebuds. The pasta was great, and the scallops were fresh, without even a hint of toughness as you bite into it. Perfect.

The pizza on the other hand, was good, but not extraordinary. It was a decent ham, cheese, mushroom and tomato pizza, but really nothing much else. Almost pizza hut's standards, if not for the thin crust that pizza hut will never be able to match.

Had a small cup of Cappuccino after dinner as my father continued on his 700gms of T-bone steak. Didn't help that he prefers beef at medium. The coffee was good, with a decent aroma and richness. Yet, the novelty wears off after a while, as the taste begins to get so strong that you need a cup of water to wash off the taste before taking the next sip.

In all, the price for the dinner there that night was just over $220. Which is a decent amount to be spending, at least for a restaurant in that area. It has done a decent job with the grills and pasta, but the pizza still has much space for improvement. I would see myself returning there soon in the future for another go at its food.
