Today was Play! Lols waited for so damned long for this! Was expecting quite a treat =D. Met up with Derek, Shaun and XJ to go watch. We got the 2.30pm show.

Actually it was quite a decent concert, but it was obvious that some new game called 'Blue Dragon' was the 'main character' in this musical, with the Dragon itself coming over to entertain the crowd(Guy in dragon suit =X) and Xbox 360 everywhere with the new Blue Dragon games everywhere. I think there was at least 4 consoles around the whole place.
So then we started with a piece called 'Fanfare' - Nobou Uematsu. This guy is the one that created most of the Final Fantasy theme songs, worship him! =D. He also worked in the song within the game Blue Dragon. Fanfare can be heard on the Play! website. Go listen! =D.
How else to start the concert but with one of the most famous games. Super Mario Bros. =D. They first started with the Super Mario Main Theme, then the Underwater Theme, followed by the Dungeon theme, before ending with a song that I've never heard before. Whilst the songs were going on, there were also the footages of the games on a screen behind the performers. too bad it was hard to concentrate on the 2 things at the same time. =D.
Next, it continued to 2 games I've never heard before. Lost Odyssey and Shenmue. Still have to say, great music, claps to the Principal Clarinet a lot of great solos came from him. Perfect. =D. Mr. Vincent Goh, I salute you man!
Ok its crazy for me to be recounting the whole experience song by song, let me just talk about the interesting parts. =D.
1. Just before the start of the Blue Dragon song, the conductor, Maestro Arnie Roth said this about the game composed by Nobou Uematsu etc etc. Then came this.
"In fact, you can actually play the game outside the Concert Hall with the Playstations."
LOLS PLAYSTATION. ITS AN X-BOX 360 LAH. LOLS. IS MICROSOFT GONNA BE PISSED. LOLS.
2. Ok the song of Blue Dragon, when it started out, was a VERY grand, VERY solemn theme. In fact, I found it quite nice. Then, on the background there was the CGI(Computer-generated imagery, a film-making technology) of the game being played. Basically, it was like a spaceship flying within the clouds, all damn dark, damn dangerous.
Then the whole thing was spoiled. The atmosphere was completely ruined. When the main character's face poped out.
Look look, I'm not stating that he looks like shit or anything, in fact, he looks decent... But...

I mean, HOW THE HELL CAN YOU IMAGINE GRAND AND SOLEMN SITUATIONS WITH THAT FACE? LOLS. SRY, BUT SERIOUSLY! LOLS.
O yah, the whole CGI.. Had no images on the Blue Dragon itself. Smart move =D.
Also, part of the Blue Dragon song can be heard on its website. The more grand one, not solemn one =D.

3. Just before the intermission, the last song was a FF song, Dancing Mad. Well, sad to say, but the organ seems not to have had enough practice. It sounded very wrong lols. Nvm, the more serious thing to note was that Shaun and I actually mistook her for a guy until we read the leaflet again. OMG. SRY MRS/MS EVELYN LIM. SO SRY! T_T.
4. I leave the best for last. =). After the intermission, the guest composer for the performance, Mr. Takenobu Mitsuyoshi (Learn more about him here =D http://www.play-symphony.com/news.php?full=62)
He came on with a cute sonic plushie, and cracked a joke or 2. Quite an interesting fellow. And he began to play and sing his award winning song from Daytona USA on the piano.
Oh.My.God. Basically, there was errors on the piano. And the song... Well, it got Shaun laughing. If you are listening to the blog music now, I replaced it with the song. LOLS. Have fun. =D.
Then after the song, he threw the sonic into the audiences in the first row.SO THAT'S WHAT THEY PAY $68 FOR~! =X.
5. Basically, the other songs went without a hitch, and it ended with an encore of a song from a VERY VERY old game, The Revenge of Shinobi(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Revenge_of_Shinobi). Or more famously, Supershinobi. Lols, such an old game! In fact, it was one of the best songs of the day, losing out to One Wingel Angel from FF.
For $17. It was damned worth it. Thumbs up to the performance man.
PS. Rmb the guy in the giant dragon suit? He was still there standind when the 2 hour long concert ended leh. Strong legs.
PSS. Play! OWNS!
