Asian World Cyber Games 2007

Erm, tmr is the opening of the Asian part of the World Cyber Games.

And honestly, I'm not the least high. I rmb how high I was last year, unable to sleep before the grand opening of the great global competition. To immense myself in such a place in such a time. Its every gamer's dream.

But this time, seriously, I'm not high at all. I mean, I'm just going there... To see see look look. Not going there.. JUST to be there.

Ai ya, you get my point.

I wonder why this is happening to this year's WCG... Its not getting me high.

First, its the website. I mean, sure it looks DAMN good. But, it really didn't have much practical use other than allowing the visitors to ogle at the mascot of the opposite sex at the main page. There was no schedule for the games being played tmr, there was no record of the results or games of the previous year. There wasn't even photographs and videos of the previous year's event!

There was also nothing on the participants on this year's event. No names, no biographies. Just flags on every page that brings you to the country's personalized page in WCG.

It almost seemed like the website was created for the sole purpose of advertising Singapore as the host country and the sponsors. Costa Sands has a whole page to itself.

The forums were also quite a letdown. It used to be much more crowded last year, with messages going around non-stop the day before the competition. Now...

Also, another major screwup was the choice of games this year.

This year, the official list of games are as follows: Fifa Soccer 07, Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, Age of Empires 3: The WarChiefs, Dead or Alive 4 and DOTA: All Stars.

What the hell. Happened. To the First Person Shooter Games.

How can you leave out one of the most popular, if not, the most popular game genre in the world? Last year at WCG Asian 2006, there was Counterstrike 1.6 and Halo 2(Erm, need confirmation on this). This year also saw the release of new FPSes such as Quake 4 on the PC and Gears of War on the X-Box 360. How can it be left out like this?!

Then we stare at the choices again, and we notice the missing Driving Genre Games. Need for Speed: Burnout, Project Gotham Racing 3, even the Ridge Racer 7. Can't they at least have a proportionate number of genres to entertain most of the gaming community?

Then you look again. Of the 5 official games, 3 are Real Time Strategy Games. Wth?

Last year, there was also 3. With Warcraft 3, Starcraft and Warhammer, but it was still bearable before as there were a total of 9 official games in the past. Not only has the number not reduced, Starcraft and Warhammer were replaced by Age of Empires 3 and DOTA.

Age of Empire 3. Fine, at least its a decent substitute for the 10 year old classic Starcraft, having a significant of micro-ing and working on indicidual troops.

But DOTA...

Ok Before I start having my say, pls ppl, dun flame me just cause I'ma say this about DOTA. Cause its really the truth. It is an enjoyable game, but seriously... Its not really suitable to be in a large scale international competition.

Firstly, its not even a proper game. Its a modification of Warcraft 3. Its just a like a pirated version of a game some enthusiastic player of the game decided to program. How can such a game be in a competition like this? Its like playing a WoW private server asking to use that account in competitions. (I know there's no such thing as WoW competitions, just an example.)

Next, its genre. What genre do you think DOTA should fall into? You're practically just controlling your own hero thoughout the whole match only. Buying items for it to use and killing NPCS to up its level. Where's the strategy in this? Compare it to any RTS game, the amount of strategic planning here is really very minimal. Don't give me bullshit about teamwork when there could easily be a 5 v 5 Warcraft 3 match with the exact same teamwork thingy here. Its really like a nerfed Warcraft 3 for people who can't multi-task.

Sorry if that offended anyone, but dun you think that its really such a case?

O well. Will be going down tmr to see how the atmosphere is like with Derek. Let's see how it goes. =D.
